VENUE:
Tallinn, Estonia - Nordic Hotel Forum, Viru väljak 3
TIME:
April 3rd 2025 from 9:30-16:30
DESCRIPTION:
You’re invited to take part in a workshop focused on finding solutions to one of the biggest challenges in the European music industry: adapting to the platform economy in a time of rapid technological change.
Global digital platforms like streaming services and social media are changing how music is distributed, monetized, and consumed — often leaving independent artists struggling for sustainable revenues. This workshop will explore how the European music ecosystem can adapt to the platform economy by using new technologies, developing innovative and fairer business models, and ensuring value is distributed more equitably.
The workshop builds on insights from the The European Music Ecosystem report, presented on January 17, 2025, at the Eurosonic Festival. The report highlights platformistion as a major challenge for the music sector, showing how digitalisation and globalisation have transformed the industry. Instead of linear and siloed processes, value is now created within complex, open and interconnected networks.
About the Workshop
Now, ekip is taking the discussion further — bringing together industry experts to tackle the pressing challenges of the platform economy, to analyze the impact and craft actionable solutions. This event builds on six months of research and social listening, offering you the opportunity to actively contribute to shaping actionable solutions for a sustainable and competitive European music industry. Recommendations designed as a result of the workshop will inform the European Commission and other stakeholders in supporting a resilient and competitive music ecosystem.
Moderation
The workshop will be moderated by Ragnar Siil, an internationally renowned cultural policy and creative industries expert, and the founder of Creativity Lab. Ragnar has advised on cultural policies and creative industry strategies in dozens of countries worldwide. He is a former Estonian Undersecretary of Arts and Chair of the EU Working Group on Cultural and Creative Sectors.
