It is well documented that the Cultural and Creative Sectors (CCS) can play a vital role in the green transition of European society. Innovation policies and funding instruments can empower the CCS to fulfil this role. One significant initiative in this context is the New European Bauhaus (NEB), an interdisciplinary EU flagship project that seeks to connect the EU Green Deal with the everyday living spaces and experiences of citizens. The NEB highlights the competencies of the CCS as crucial assets for building a more sustainable future and mobilises several EU research and innovation funding instruments to support CCS actors in creating “a beautiful, sustainable and inclusive future”.
During the NEB Policy Lab, various CCS actors were invited to reflect on how the initiative has served as a catalyst for CCS contributions to the green transition so far, which transition roles are particularly strengthened through NEB, and how the initiative aligns with other support mechanisms. Participants also discussed remaining barriers within NEB and across other instruments that limit the CCS from fully contributing to Europe’s green transition. Based on insights gathered during the Policy Lab, the ekip team formulated policy recommendations to further stimulate CCS contributions to the green transition within an open innovation system.
