This policy prototyping workshop explores the potenital, scope and ecosystem support for innovation around digital inclusion and digital commons with a focus on the key role of public libararies.
Public libraries’ mission is to promote democratic values with a focus on access to information, literature, and knowledge, as well as free opinion formation. To participate in democratic dialogue and manage the flow of information, citizens need not only access to information and tools but also literacy skills and the ability to critically navigate the digital flow.
In a rapidly changing and uncertain world – and with six months until Sweden’s next parliamentary election – the library’s role as an open, democratic arena seems to be becoming increasingly critical.
What role do libraries need to take and who do they need to collaborate with in a time of increased disinformation, polarization, and digital vulnerability? What methods, products, and services need to be developed for a future digital and democratic mission?
